So I got up this morning, got ready for work and left. I am sitting at 29th and K getting ready to jump on the freeway to head to Folsom when my lovely truck dies. Again. Yeah, same thing its been doing but now it won't start and I am in the middle of a horrid intersection. Some guys help push me off to the side of the road where I am out of traffic. Yes, I was grateful I wore a sundress today....

Well, I am sitting there near tears out of frustration at this car, when there is a knock on my window. I look over and there is a homeless man standing there. He asks what's wrong and I tell him. Turns out he was a master mechanic for 30 years for GM. He got into a horrible motorcycle accident and is physically unable to work. A serious of bad decisions and a lot of bad luck now has him on the streets. Anyway, he looks around and sees what it is within 5 minutes. It way the Air Intake Control thingie. Yeah, I know, real technical. Problem is though, my car won't even start enough for me to get home much less get the part and over to my mechanic. So he tells me that if I wait until this part cools off, I'll be able to start it. So we start talking and I asked him, if I drove him and got the part and the tools, could he do it? I said that I'd be happy to take him anywhere he wanted afterwards if he could fix it. He agrees and after about 30 minutes the truck starts fine just like he said.

We headed to Kragen and got the tools and then I walked to CarQuest across the street because Kragen didn't have it. They had the part ($106 ouch!) and he replaced it. So I drove him to the bank to cash his VA check and then he wanted to get a cell phone because he got jumped and someone stole his. So we ran around town getting his errands done and then we got him checked into a motel for a week. I bought him a cart thing for his stuff and a few other things. I figure I probably spent $80 for his stuff but... he was so grateful and he fixed my truck so fast and I would have paid that at a regular shop.

So here is the God part (aside from my truck being fixed and me not getting killed)... while this guy and I are talking he is telling me how he was in Nam and ran with the Hell's Angels and stuff. It was all sounding very similar to a man I used to know. In fact, the same man that bought that truck for me in 2003. So I asked him if he knew him and he did! He got in touch with his son and daughter a few years ago and I think I got him to at least consider the possibility of maybe going to live with them until he gets his feet under him. It was just so amazing... I mean, yeah, I guess some people would chalked it up to coincidence but... how can I not see God in all this? I mean the man who bought me the truck used to know the man that fixed it and I meet them some 2.5 years apart? And both times they helped me out I was near tears with frustration, completely lost at what to do next. Amazing... at least to me.
